Cisco Unified MessagingCisco Unified Messaging system is a suite of voice, data and video products and applications specifically designed to help organizations of all sizes to communicate more effectively. This is an open and expandable platform for real-time communications based on presence, mobility and the intelligent information network. Charles Giancarlo, Charles Giancarlo at Cisco System gave the following definition: "The Cisco Unified Communications system is the first true second-generation Internet Protocol (IP) Communications system providing not just telephone services, but rather a rich communications environment that seamlessly integrates voice, video and data collaboration in one system." The Cisco Unity Unified Messaging system is based on company products that have already made a name for itself such as Cisco Unity, Cisco IP Contact Center, Cisco MeetingPlace, Cisco CallManager. There are also some new developments, features and capabilities, like the Cisco Unified Personal Communicator, Cisco Unified Presence Server and Customer Interaction Analyzer. Already existing customers can choose to upgrade to take advantage of the additional features. Cisco Unified Personal Communicator allows employees to share information in real-time. Features an extremely user-friendly interface, so that users can find their way through the multiple communications applications. By using the dynamic presence information, users of the system can search existing directories to locate contacts and simply "click to call" using voice and video, allowing them to exchange ideas face-to-face. The great thing about all Cisco Unified Messaging products is that employees can access them wherever they are. The Cisco Unified Presence Server works in close relation with the other applications, because it figures out how users can communicate. It maintains a database with information about the status of every user - what device they are using to connect to the network, a phone, PC, video terminal, etc. In that way, the different employees can connect more efficiently by determining the most effective method of communication. Cisco Unified Mobile Communicator provides users with access from their mobile phones. Employees can view and listen to voicemail, set presence status, access enterprise directories, send secure text messages. The latest version of CallManager supports SIP, which basically means that third party SIP telephone systems (not just the once produced by Cisco) can communicate with CallManager. This a step forward, because in the past only a Cisco phone running the Skinny protocol was compatible. Now buyers have a choice of IP phones. Untill now, CallManager was only available for Windows. The new launch offers customers an appliance, based on the Linux operating system. So we have CallManager for Linux. Unified Messenger is a software suit which acts as a catch-all for your IM needs.
