Virtual Pbx

All types of business and large corporations are beginning to realize the benefits of virtual PBX. Such PBX systems are a relatively new concept that makes even very small firns sound big, just like a Fortune 500 company, with features such as virtual attendants, unified messaging, voicemail, and forwarding capabilities. In the past, big corporations would pay tens of thousands of dollars for those features, while now you can get them at only a fraction of the cost by opting for a Virtual PBX.

The unified messaging market is full of companies offering unified communication solutions. For only about $10 per month, Virtual PBX providers will give you a number for incoming calls (local or toll free), an auto attendant that directs calls to multiple extensions, plenty of minutes for both incoming and outgoing calls, central voice mail for all extensions, PC based fax sending and receiving, unified messaging (receive voice mails and faxes in your email) and a login for the web-based version from which you can edit the different options.

Virtual phone system providers don't completely eliminate the need for regular phone lines. All calls to your provider will be routed to the company's call center. From there, they will be re-routed to your existing phone numbers (the conventional ones you already have) depending on how the system is setup. The phone numbers you select for the final routing can be located anywhere in the USA, they could be regular office phone lines, mobile phones, VoIP lines, residential lines.

Virtual PBXes can be setup to redirect calls to different phone numbers depending on the times of the day, week or range of dates using a virtual assistant. For example, you can have all incoming calls forwarded to your personal mobile phone over the weekend, since you won't be at the office. Or when you are on vacation, you can transfer all calls to voice mail. Basically, you can choose to route the calls to whichever phone number is the most convenient for you. What's even more, you can setup the Virtual PBX software so that there will be several alternative phone numbers which to try and in what order. If no one picks up the phone on the first number, the software will automatically forward the call to the next and so on, until the call is answered. If the system runs out of forwarding lines, it will send the call to your voice mail.

Virtual PBXs have a reply option which lets the user type in a message that is converted into spoken words using text-to-speech technology and it will play it to the caller. By default, if you are using the Virtual PBX software, when a call comes in, you will be presented with four options - accept, reject, reply or voicemail.

How Unified Messaging Can Assist Your Business

By Kieron J James
Unified messaging is essentially the name for a service that attempts to draw together the relatively disparate forms of messaging communication into a single interface which can be easily accessed at any time.
